While we think that paints can have little impact on our homes air quality and health it can actually be the opposite though their off-gassing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We’ve seen paints having adverse impacts in the past with the movement away from lead paints. So look for paints with “no-VOC” or “low-VOC” markings. These paints are the same price as a normal gallon, but they are much better for you and your family. While Home Depot in Reston does not carry this type of paint most paints stores do. Sherwin Williams off of Elden Street stocks a paint line called Harmony containing Zero VOCs and a low-odor. Also ask about their $5 quart size samples!
